For stationary-engine radiators, comparing with the ordinary fin-tube type radiators, our radiators have (i) by far high overall coefficients of heat transfer, (ii) larger pressure losses of air flowing across radiator and (iii) lower resistances of water in radiators. From our experiment carried out under equal engine speed and output, we saw that the radiator consisted of 6 rows of our new tube and 95 sheets of horizontal fin have about 93% heat radiation capacity of that of the peculiar radiator to the engine, where the heat transmitting areas of the former are about 60% of that of the latter. These figures mean the lower limit of our radiator performance, because our radiator was of poor make. Moreover we produced the radiators having smaller heat transmitting surfaces (or fewer rows of tubes) and carried out the performance tests of them under the condition corresponding approximately to the car running. Thus we knew that the heat radiation performances of our radiators using new heat transmitting tubes in a few rows get to about 70∼77% of that of the ordinary fin-tube type radiator installed originally on the stationary-engine where the heat transmitting areas of the former are only about 33∼36% of that of the latter. It is expected that our new radiators having almost as many holizontal fins as in the ordinary radiators may have nearly equal heat transfer performances to that of the fin-tube type radiators, though the heat transfer areas of new radiators are about 60% of that of the original radiator. Moreover we can expect the improvements on the performances of our radiators, if we choose their cooling fans and water pumps suitably.
