Abstract

For the direct load transmission, we generally use the fastenings for the shaft such as keys, pins, splines and etc. But these fastening devices show some substantial defects. To eliminate or remove them, regular non-circular sectioned profile is devised. This is the polygonal profile coupling. But we have little information about this new coupling. The purpose of this report is to show how we machine this coupling. Calculating formula for the cross-section of the polygonal profile is studied theoretically, and in comparison of this with that of the spline section, the profitable range of polygonal profile is determined. The accuracy of profile and the surface roughness by changing cutting speed, feed, the eccentricity of cam and worked material are studied and Compared with the theoretical values.
