Abstract

On a diesel ship provided with an exhaust gas economizer, there are problems with soot fire which occurs in the economizer itself and safety against fired soot exhausted from the funnel.<BR>Not only ship owners and ship builders but also persons concerned have placed great importance on the soot fire and taken preventive measures. It, however, remains an unsolved problem.<BR>This report covers;<BR>1) investigation of the process of occurrence of soot fire<BR>2) preventive measures against soot fire<BR>3) the effect achieved by the preventive measures<BR>On a container ship which has a steam turbo generator plant by a large exhaust gas economizer.<BR>The preventive measures against soot fire given in this report is not effective on all kind of exhaust gas economizer plants, but shows a guideline for preventing soot fire.
