In this paper, we propose a new template matching method using principal component analysis and image edge information. First, we introduce the previous eigen template method and the edge based eigen template method. Secondly, we proposed a new edge based image similarity suitable to the eigen template method and the proposed method is robust to the local illumination changes such as the image shading. The experimental results show that the proposed method can detect the target correctly and its computation time is almost same as the previous method. <br>
