Abstract

In order to clarify the damage to nonstructural elements on school buildings and gymnasiums due to the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake, total 1560 school buildings, 1553 school gymnasiums and 100 suffered Judo and Kendo halls were investigated according to documents for disaster restoration work. In school buildings, sever damage were found on ceiling. In gymnasiums, many falls of ceiling and lighting and damage of window, interior and exterior walls were found. The damage of ceiling in both gymnasiums and Judo and Kendo halls have regional tendency and can be divided into six categories through this investigation.
