Description

In this study, 28 patients with mild or moderate atopic dermatitis were randomized to 4-week treatment with betamethasone valerate ointment (A group) or with loratadine tablet add-on (B group) to investigate changes in VAS for itch, SCORAD index, sIL-2R, TARC, and CTACK in serum. The VAS value, sIL-2R, and TARC significantly decreased in only B group. The SCORAD index in B group significantly decreased more than that of A group. A good positive correlation in changes between the serum TARC value and SCORAD index has been shown. Thus, the serum TARC value was considered a useful clinical marker. Furthermore, synergy effects of the combination therapy of topical corticosteroid and loratadine for the treatment of atopic dermatitis has been confirmed.
