Abstract
The authors examined the basal metabolism of one cow, aged IO, in her nearly post absorptive condition. Gases were collected by DOUGLAS bag method. The principle results obtained are as follows.<br>(1) O2 consumed per an hour and per 1kg body weight is about 0.149 L.<br>(2) CO2 produced per an hour and per l kg body weight is about 0.107L.<br>(3) R. Q. is about 0.72; if the protein metabolism is not taken into account in this case, this value is fit to the non-protein R. Q. and we understand from this experiment that the " Wagyu" cow consumes the fat rather than the carbo-hydrate in her basal metabolism.<br>(4) The heat production as the result of basal metabolism is 0.70Cal. per an hour anp per 1kg body weight in the "Wagyu" cow.
