Abstract
The pigment in the hair, skin and tengue of Japanese brown breed of cattle in two prefectures, Kumamoto and KÔchi, was comparatively studied, and the result was also compared with that of Japanese black breed of cattle. <br>The hair: color of brown breed in Kumamoto prefecture is yellowish brown all over the body surface. Although the hair pigment of the greater parts of coat of brown breed in KÔchi prefecture is yellowish brown likewise as that of umamoto prefecture, there are found the black hair scattered on the body surface whose pigment is the same with that of Japanese black breed of cattle, and also there are two-colored hair which has two parts, brown and black, in each fiber.<br>The pigment of skin and tongue and the color of hoof, horn and iris of brown breed in Kochi prefecture are different entirely from those of ones in Kumamoto prefecture, but the same with those of Japanese black breed of cattle.
