説明

Two studies were conducted to investigate the effects of moisture content on aerobic deterioration in grass silage. In experiment 1, the nutritive value and loss of nutrients were compared between deteriorated silages, which were adjusted to 70, 60 and 50% moisture with or without the addition of water to wilted silage (50% moisture), and, in experiment 2, between low (55%)-and high (80%)-moisture deteriorated silages with or without wilting of material grass, respectively. In both experiments, deteriorated silages were prepared by stacking silage removed from a silo in the open air for 7 days and turning it over once a day.
Decline in digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, NFE and energy and availability of nitrogen and loss of nutrients by aerobic deterioration were greater as the moisture content of silage increased, in experiment 1, and they were greater in high-moisture silage than in low-moisture silage, in experiment 2.
From these results, if the amount of air which penetrates the silage mass is equal regardless of the difference in moisture content, it is concluded that the rate at which aerobic deterioration takes place is more rapid in silage with higher moisture content and thereby results in a greater deterioration in nutritive value and a greater loss of nutrients.
