Abstract

The phospolipase A activity in bull, boar and human seminal plasma was determined with hydroxamate method under optimum pH and Ca concentration. The bull seminal plasma showed relatively high activity among three (8.66±1.08 μmol/ml/3 hrs, mean ±SEM, as hydrolysed ester) when the substrate was phosphatidylcholine.Human seminal plasma hydrolysed phosphatidylethanolamine more than phosphatidylcholine. The activity in the boar seminal plasma was essentially low or none irrespective of which phospholipid was used as substrate. The results of the present study suggest a possibility of involvement of the phospholipase A in the lytic changes in cell membrane induced by bull seminal plasma.
