Description

The inheritance pattern of the green cocoon of Bombyx mori has been complicated because the cocoon color trait seems to be in continuous variation. In the present study, the degree of green in the cocoon shell was quantitatively evaluated in the BC1 and BC2 segregations between the green and white cocoon strain by chromaticity. Furthermore, linkage analyses of the faint-green cocoon were performed on the BC1 and BC2 segregants using PCR-amplified length polymorphisms based on the SNP map, which is unified with a classical linkage map. Consequently, a new marker gene associated with the faint-green cocoon appearance was identified on the 27th linkage group in which a former unique morphological marker (Xan) was lost because of the uniformity of a marker (Sel) on the 24th linkage group.<br>
