Abstract

Displacement ventilation is an efficient way to make a good air quality for human being. But the cold draft from a cooled wall may destroy the thermal stratification and the air quality in the occupied zone is contaminated. Temperature and contaminant concentration distributions, thermal plumes and downdraft velocities were measured in the full-size experimental room with their experimental parameters as the internal heat load and simulated outdoor air temperatures. The downdraft was generated at the window between the experimental room and the cooled next room. Calculations of the temperature and concentration distribution are also conducted by the block model proposed by Togari et al. The calculated results were practically in good agreement with the measured one.
