Description
A 3-year-old American Cocker Spaniel with bilateral obstruction of ear canals was treated 3 times with a video otoscope in conjunction with systemic administration of cefpodoxime proxetil and ketoconazole. The cleaning fluid containing polyoxyethylene octylphenyl ether was used for washing ear canals, and secretions filled and plugged the canals were removed by a straight grasping forceps. At the first visit, a video otoscope could not be inserted deeply because of obstruction of the ear canals, and the eardrums could not be detected. At 2nd treatment on the 12th day, swelling of the ear canals had been reduced and filthy hairs and cerumen could be easily removed followed by washing. By 3rd treatment on the 29th day, the lesions were further improved inasmuch as the handle of the malleus could be detected. The video otoscope makes it possible to provide safe and reliable treatments of ear canal lesions because of real-time imaging. Problems of the ear canals and eardrums of the present case were successfully improved by the treatments using the video otoscope, and the surgical procedure for the ear lesions was averted.<br>
