Description
A case of upside-down writing /double mirror writing and drawing is reported. Both writing and drawing were spontaneous and not replicable. The patient presented various symptoms of visuospatial agnosia, including unilateral spatial neglect, on a daily basis following brain infarction. While various case reports have appeared to date on disturbances of visual processing of the canonical upright of objects, reports on disturbances of output systems such as writing are extremely rare.<br> The object recognition process is achieved by two visual systems : the object-centered perceptual system and viewer-centered perceptual system. Disturbance of the viewer-centered perceptual system affects ability to establish object orientation but does not affect recognition of the object itself. Our patient presented the same set of symptoms with some inconsistencies. Based on recent studies, we discussed whether disturbance of visuospatial cognition including the viewer-centered perceptual system influences output systems such as writing or drawing.
