Abstract

A new series of sulfonylureas with an imidazo [1, 2-a] pyridine moiety bonded to the sulfonyl group were synthesized and their herbicidal activity was examined. Some of these compounds showed potent activity against many kinds of paddy weeds as well as safety to rice plants. Among them, 1-(2-chloroimidazo [1, 2-a] pyridin-3-ylsulfonyl)-3-(4, 6-dimethoxypyrimidin-2-yl) urea (1g, code No. TH-913) was selected for further evaluation, because it effectively controlled weeds at a rate of 0.5-1.0 g a. i./a with good rice selectivity in outdoor tests.
