抄録

The purpose of the present work is to develop the method for converting the chromium-containing sludge into disposable glass-fixed bodies by using waste bottle-glass.<br>After a series of pre-experiments the mixtures of sludge, glass and clay in various ratios were heated at 1200°C for 2h. The leach test was applied and the amount of chromium ion dissolved into water from the solidified mass was determined by an atomic absorption spectroscopy and the crystal phases were identified by X-ray diffractometry.<br>The optimum composition for obtaining the aggregate with high mechanical strength and glassy luster was 44, 28 and 28wt% of sludge, glass and clay, respectively, in the system of sludge, glass and clay. The amount of total chromium ion dissolved from the body was 0.15ppm. This value was lower by 1/10 than that of the maximum permissible one for chromium-containing sludge prescribed by the Environment Agency of Japan.<br>Suppression of the dissolution amount of chromium ion as mentioned above is due to the formation of Cr2O3 and/or uvarovite in the glass-fixed bodies and to a locking effect of glass.
