Abstract

The X-ray photoelectron spectra of germanates, fluorides and nitrides were measured, and the following results were obtained.
(1) The state of oxygen ion in MeO-GeO2 compounds changes in a complicated way with the kind and amount of the cation.
(2) Roughly speaking, the O 1s binding energy of PbO-GeO2 glasses decreases with increasing PbO content.
(3) The O 1s binding energy shifts in Na2O-GeO2 glasses had no correlation with the Na2O content.
(4) The F 1s and Be 1s binding energy shifts in the RF-BeF2 system are similar to the O 1s and Si 2p binding energy shifts in silicates.
(5) The N 1s binding energies of nitrides can be correlated to the Pauling electronegativity of the atom nearest to the nitrogen.
