Description
A case of occult intrasacral meningocele in a 66-year-old woman is presented. MR imaging showed a cystic lesion in the sacrum. Neither the initial myelogram nor CT myelography (CTM) had shown the sacral cyst, but delayed CTM demonstrated the contrast medium within the cyst. Surgical exploration revealed a partial defect of the sacral lamina and a cystic mass containing cerebrospinal fluid. The cyst wall adhered tightly to the left sacral nerve roots. After opening the cyst wall widely, the fistulous tract between the dural sac and the cyst was obliterated with oversewing. The histological diagnosis was meningeal cyst without nerve root fibers. We discuss the neuroradiological features and surgical approach in this uncommon entity.
