Abstract
Growth of radish sprouts under environmental conditions of static magnetic field(35 mT) and audible sound (50 Hz) was investigated in order to analyze the effects of these two energies on growth and contents of cations (Ca+2, Mg+2, K+).
In the sprouts grown under the magnetic field, the total dry matter weight of stems and leaves was almost unchanged compared with the control plants. On the other hand, the water content was increased. In the sprouts grown under sound, both the total raw and dry weights were not significantly changed compared with the control plants, as well as the magnetic field. However, the growth of stems was suppressed but the growth of leaves was accelerated.
The effects of magnetic field and sound were attributed to the increase of the transportation of K+ ion into the cells, leading to permeation of water to the cells.
