説明

Analytical studies with regards to the polytype of silicon carbide were performed by means of a geiger counter X ray-spectrometer on the samples of commercial products for abrasives, refractories and cements made in Japan, Germany and U.S.A.. Samples covered also some ingots of different colors found in a manufacturing furnace in Japan and some large single crystals. Correlations between colors and polytypes are discussed. Results are roughly summerized as follows:<br>(1) Type 4 H is not formed in silicon carbide crystals of pale green, green and yellow varieties.<br>(2) Small quantities of Type 15 R are almost always found in all ingots except in yellow crystales where rather large quantities are found.<br>(3) Type 6 H is found in both green and black samples.<br>(4) The black silicon carbide found in bricks of American and German made consists chiefly of type 6 H, while type 4 H is the most common variety in black silicon carbide crystals found in products of Japan.
