Abstract

An investigation was conducted to investigate the environmental enrichment, by using a single-case design. The study examined whether toys (hoops) reduced "regurgitation behavior" of two female bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncates) in an aquarium. A baseline assessment phase, without specific treatment (A) was followed by the intervention phase, in which toy was thrown into the tank for 30 min immediately after the daily training/feeding session (B). Several cycles of A and B phases indicated that the number of regurgitations was effectively decreased by the intervention, although there were individual differences in the durability and cross-situational generality of the effect.
