Description

Observation on the male flight activity of five Zephyrus hairstreaks, Artopoetes pryeri(MURRAY), Antigius attilia (BREMER), Favonius orientalis (MURRAY), Chrysozephyrus smaragdinus (BREMER) and Chrysozephyrus brillantinus (STAUDINGER) was performed at Koganezawa valley, Ueda City, Nagano Pref. toward the end of June, 1975. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Artopoetes pryeri was most active in light intensity of 8,000-25,000 lux. It was assumed that the light intensity more than 50,000 lux acted as an inhibitor of the activity to this species. 2. Antigius attilia was most active in light intensity of 5,000-20,000 lux. It was assumed that the light intensity more than 50,000 lux acted as an inhibitor of the activity to this species. 3. Favonius orientalis was most active in light intensity of 15,000-35,000 lux. It was assumed that the light intensity more than 80,000 lux acted as an inhibitor of the activity to this species. 4. Chrysozephyrus brillantinus was most active in light intensity of 15,000-35,000 lux. It was assumed that the light intensity more than 50,000 lux acted as an inhibitor of the activity to this species. 5. Chrysozephyrus smaragdinus was most active in light intensity of 15,000-25,000 lux. It was assumed that the light intensity more than 50,000 lux acted as an inhibitor of the activity to this species. 6. The activity of these species were stimulated temporarily when the light intensity dropped more than 50,000 lux rapidly.
