Description

Items needed for the optimal performance of gastrointestinal cancer screening were considered from three perspectives: science, skill, and education. For cancer screening that clearly and scientifically demonstrates decreased mortality rates, advances in examination skills and image-reading abilities are important for precise quality control of appropriate cancer screening. In reference to this evaluation, it is essential to define a range of false negatives that is acceptable when appropriate cancer screening is performed. In the future, it will be necessary to investigate factors that reduce quality control for each modality—both individually and as contributing to the test ratios. In addition, it is important to educate test personnel about the operation and quality control of appropriate screening.
