Abstract

In order to evaluate the propriety of categorized criteria for abdominal ultrasound cancer screening, 70 cases (0.092%) of abdominal cancer were detected from 75,802 people, including 12 hepatocellular carcinomas, 12 metastatic liver cancers, 2 cholangio cell carcinomas, 1 gallbladder cancer, 10 pancreatic cancers and 33 renal cancers. These were classified with categorized criteria and investigated.<BR>The results were Category 5:24 cases, Category 4:39 cases, and Category 3:7cases.<BR>As significant findings, there were 3 mosaic echoes in HCC (Category 5), 9 multiple tumors in metastatic liver cancers (Category 4), and 6 obstructions of the main pancreatic duct in pancreatic cancers (Category 5). In kidney cancer, there were 11 marginal low echo belts with free echo mass (Category 5) and 7 equally high echo masses (Category 3).<BR>Categorized classification of ultrasonographic findings was an efficient method for cancer screening because 63 cases (90%) were over Category 4.<BR>Significant and indirect findings in Category 3 should be treated with great care in order to recognize early abdominal cancers.
