Description
A precise and simple measuring method of structural damping coefficient is proposed and its effectiveness is confirmed theoretically and experimentally. In the method of obtaining the structural damping coefficient by hanging a sample and measuring the vibration damping with the microphone, it was the problem that accuracy was lowered by the effect of the swing of hung sample in measuring wave shape. In this research, we proposed a signal processing method using sound pressure model which considers both swing and material vibration. As the result of measurement, it was shown that it is possible to measure the damping ratio at least within 3% in error margin as long as the amplitude of the swing of hung sample, normalized by the distance between the sample and the microphone, is 0.5 or less and the damping ratio is 1.0×10-5 or more. It was also confirmed that the damping ratio is dependent on the number of vibrations, and the damping ratio is quantitatively agrees with the theoretical value.
