Description
We report a rare cyclopia case of congenital malformation which was found by fetal ultrasonography at the second trimester.
This case is of a 17 weeks 5 day pregnant 22 years old woman and her pregnancy history is 1 graviditas/1 parturition.
In the ultrasonographic findings, the fetus's body was consistent with the term spent. However, the head was small, the cerebrum intracranial structure was shifted, the septum pellucidum and mid line echo was faint, the orbits of the eye weren't properly divided into two cavities, there was a long nose at the forehead area and ears were at a lower position on the head. Cyclopia was strongly suspected.
In this case, the choromosome banding is not abnormal.
According to these findings, this case was suspected of being the most severe type of holoprosencephaly cyclopia.
Most of cyclopia will not go to term, birth is rare. If a baby is born, a prognosis is very difficult. One reason of cyclopia is choromosome aberration, but the details are unknown.
In this study, these is not a particularly origin, it is perhaps caused by accident.Finding a cyclopia in the early stages will help to reduce the burden imposed on the mother's body.
In conclusion, we propose it is important to take fetal ultrasonography in the early stages of pregnancy.
