Abstract

This paper presents a result of a series of general investigations into the damage control seismic design of steel bridges. To this end, one of the most efficient ways is found to install energy dissipation devices in bridges, such as buckling-restrained braces (BRBs). In this paper, a series of new performance tests have been carried out for BRBs that have been made with existing H-section braces being wrapped in by a sort of buckling restraining members so that the overall buckling of the braces would not occur.
