Abstract

A pedestrian slab bridge is being developed using GFRP pultrusion profiles bonded together by adhesive layers. The innovative feature is the appropriate adoption of semi-fixed support conditions with anchor bolts at both ends not only to sharply reduce the bending deflection but also to drastically improve the economic efficiency. In this paper, the girder connection using rivet and structural adhesive was investigated experimentally. First, the tensile tests were conducted using coupon specimens varying joint methods. Second, the girder connection was designed based on the fail-safe design. Finally, bending tests were carried out using the real-size partial models with or without the girder connection in order to evaluate the validity of the proposed girder connection.
