Abstract
In order to upgrade an impact resistance of the rockfall protection walls, a method of three-layered absorbing system (TLAS) attaching to the back surface of the wall was proposed, which is composed of soil cement as outside layer, geotextile as core layer, and expanded polystyrene (EPS) block as inside layer. Here, in order to confirm the applicability of the proposed system, a weight impact test was conducted using the prototype rockfall protection retaining-walls with the TLAS. The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1) attaching the proposed absorbing system (TLAS), the wall was suffered with no damage until the impact energy reaches to 70 kJ; and 2) applying the proposed absorbing system, impact resistant capacity of the wall can be upgraded more than six times comparing with that without the system at least.
