Recently, high temperature injury of rice, which degraded a quality of rice, often occurred. Cooling of paddy thermal condition by adequate water management was expected as one of countermeasures. Physical basis heat balance model was necessary to evaluate how to affect the irrigation water amount and temperature to paddy water and leaf temperature. In this study, prediction model of paddy thermal condition including water and leaf temperature was developed considering two components; 1)horizontal heat transfer by the advection of irrigation water movement, 2)vertical heat transfer between air-canopy-water layer. Developed model was applied to two paddies of Pref. Miyagi and Kumamoto, and verified comparing the observed and calculated paddy water and leaf temperature. The results showed good agreement with observed data.
