In this paper, the authors analyzed the Wisconsin home economics education curriculum, and clarified how it embodied the theory of Marjorie M.Brown. This curriculum was focused on the family and laid emphasis on the "family systems of action" as the basic concept which had been proposed by Brown. Its characteristic was that the curriculum was structured around the concept of the "work of the family" which may embody the aspects of the "family systems of action." The goals and contents of the curriculum were selected from the viewpoint of the "work of the family" that could extend to the careers and occupations related to home economics education. Furthermore, its learning activities were organized in order to interrelate the conceptual knowledge with the thinking processes. The wisconsin home economics education curriculum was aimed at helping individuals create their own lives and developing their orientations to become self-directing in their thinking and acting.
