Abstract
In this study, we conducted a survey on behavior and awareness toward healthcare services in order to discuss the ideas of the healthcare-life area (1,534 respondents, 51.5% response rate). The results showed that a certain number of residents crossed the border to visit Koseiren Kainan Hospital in the neighboring prefecture of Aichi, and this was particularly evident in the former Nagashima-cho area. More than 60% of respondents did not resist visiting a medical institution in Aichi Prefecture for both emergency and non-emergency visits. Compare to 33.9% of the respondents disagreed, 55.7% agreed with providing financial support to medical institutions in Aichi Prefecture where residents in Kuwana often visited. Many residents did not consider administrative districts when visiting medical institutions and where providing financial support. This was probably the healthcare-life area had been already formed over the border in accord with the historical and geographical characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary to draw up a prefectural medical care plan with consideration of the ideas of healthcare-life area.
