Abstract

Food, Clothing, and shelter are the necessaries of human life. Above all, clothes are important for protection against the cold and for decoration ourselves. We don't know time of initiating the use of clothes. In Japan, clay figures of Jomon period (we call them “Doguu”) have decoration looks like clothes. People put on clothes since Jomon period. Textiles have used various materials. Plant fiber has a long history. Excavated objects are materials for archaeology and valuable cultural properties for people. We must keep them to the future maintaining their original shape. But we need a minute amount sample for material research. Infrared spectroscopy is useful for the material research of archaeological textiles. We have researched synchrotron infrared spectroscopy using SPring-8, and we started new research about photoacoustic spectroscopy in our laboratory. In this paper, we showed examples for a minute amount sampling analysis and non-destructive analysis about archaeological textile fibers.
