Description

A 51-year-old female presented with a 1-month history of right oculomotor nerve palsy by a partially thrombosed internal carotid artery aneurysm of cavernous segment. Cerebral angiograms showed a right cavernous sinus aneurysm arising from the C4 portion. The aneurysmal dome measured 11×9 mm. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a thrombosed aneurysm, and the largest diameter of the aneurysm was 16 mm. Overlapping stent-assisted coil embolization using two stents was performed. The patient's clinical course was unremarkable and her symptoms gradually improved and completely recovered from embolization 5 months later. The overlapping stent-assisted coil embolization promoted intra-aneurysm flow disruption and stabilized the wall environment, suggesting another strategy for the treatment of partially thrombosed aneurysms.
