Abstract

Between 1976 and 1987, acute arterial reconstruction was performed to relieve acute upper arm ischemia in 23 cases. The clinical findings and results were as follows.
1. Twenty-three cases were divided etiologically into vascular trauma (15), thrombosis (4) and embolism (4). Vascular trauma cases consisted of traumatic thrombosis (8), traumatic arterial rupture (5) and traumatic aneurysm (2).
2. Fifteen cases (65%) were treated withih 3 days from onset.
3. For thrombosis and embolism, the major procedure used was thorombectomy. For vascular trauma, angioplasty and arterial anastomosis were required in seven cases of traumatic rupture and thrombosis. Other procedures used were aneurysmectomy (2), bypass grafting (3) and thrombectomy (3).
4. Prognosis was fair and amputation was not necessary in any case.
