Internal jugular phlebectasias are rare. A 46-year-old female was seen at the hospital because of discomfortness in the neck at swallowing. Ultrasonography, and digital subtraction angiography revealed a phlebectasia of the right internal jugular vein, which was excised under general anaesthesia. After the operation, her complaint disappeared completely. Histologic findings of the resected specimen revealed the thin venous wall with scanty smooth muscle cell bundles and elastic fiberes. From these findings, a possibility of dysplasia of the venous wall could not be ruled out.<br> Internal jugular phlebectasia should be kept in mind as a possible diagnosis, when we encounter patients complaining of discomfortness of the neck at swallowing.
