Abstract
The behavior of floating logs in river during floods is investigated by a combined study of field survey, large-scale hydraulic model test and numerical analysis. It was found that the movement and accumulation process of floating logs was controlled mainly by a phase shift of the low water channel to flood channel, the density and distribution of vegetation, the ratio of vegetation height to water depth, and the direction and duration time of the wind during a flood. The prediction of the accumulation position of floating logs became possible from these knowledge and three-dimensional numerical analysis of flow.
