Abstract

Molecular iodine is environmentally benign oxidizing reagent, especially for the oxidation of alcohols and aldehydes to esters, nitriles, and amides. Moreover, it can be used for the introduction of protecting groups, deprotection of protecting groups, iodocyclization, C-C bond formation, and preparation of heterocycles.
