Description

N, N'-Ethylenediaminosulfone (2) (decomtemp. 188190°C) was synthesized through the equimolar reaction of ethylenediamine and sulfamide at 140150°C. When one mole of ethylenediamine was reacted with two moles of sulfamide, N, N'-ethylenebis (sulfamide) (3) (mp 105106°C) was obtained. A small amount of (2) was also formed from sulfuryl chloride and ethylenediamine used in excess. Ethylenediamino-N-sulfonic acid (4) (mp 215216°C) was obtained from the equimolar reaction between ethylenediamine and sulfuryl chloride.<BR>(2) was treated with formaldehyde, and the methylol compound so obtained was found to show crease-resistingeffect on cellulosic fabrics.
