A case of multiple leiomyoma of the small intestine in a patient with Recklinghausen's disease is reported. A 49-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of bloody stool. The patient had been diagnosed as Recklinghausen's disease from early childhood. Ultrasonography and computed tomography revealed a tumor in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen. Superior mesenteric arteriography disclosed tumor stains in the region of the jejunal artery. Emergency laparotomy was carried out under a diagnosis of bleeding from the small bowel tumors. The laparotoiny showed five tumors which originated from the jejunum and ileum and grew extramurally. Partial resection of the jejunum including the largest tumor 5cm in diameter and extirpation of the other tumors were performed. All tumors were diagnosed as leiomyoma by histopathological examination.<br> Gastrointestinal tumors associated with Recklinghausen's disease are commonly neurogenic. Leiomyoma of the small intestine is rarely associated with the disease, and 29 such cases including this case reported in Japan so far predominantly manifested intestinal bleeding. When a patient with Recklinghausen's disease develops intestinal bleeding, we should consider a possible association of intestinal tumor as well as its multiple occurrence.
