We experienced two cases of early duodenal cancer.
Case 1 was a 46-year-old man. He was admitted to the hospital because of abnormal findings in the second portion of the duodenum. Endoscopic findings revealed a cauliflower like tumor in the second portion of the duodenum. The second portion of the duodenum was opened, and the tumor was resected with duodenal wall. Histological examination revealed well-differentiated tubular adenocarcinoma with the invasion limited to the mucosal layer.
Case 2 was a 59-year-old woman. There was a previous history of undergoing resection of the rectum for an advanced rectal cancer at the age of 57 years. She was admitted to the hospital because of jaundice and impaired liver function. Endoscopic findings revealed a papillary tumor just under the papilla of Vater in the second portion of the duodenum. Pylorus preserving pancreatoduodenectomy was performed under a diagnosis of the carcinoma of the papilla of Vater. Histological examination revealed the early duodenal cancer with an invasion limited to the mucosal layer.
