Abstract

A thermal degradation liquefaction technology for municipal waste plastics (MWP) containing PVC and PET using an externally-heated rotary kiln has been developed and the following results have been found in this study.<BR>(1) The yield of thermal degradation oil from MWP containing PVC and PET is lower than that of 3P (PE, PP, PS) and the yield of the thermal degradation residue is higher than that of 3P. (2)In a pilot-test plant using a rotary kiln with a processing capacity of 500kg/day, the yield of thermal degradation oil in a semi-batch operation is higher than in a continuous operation. (3) A concurrent process separating dechlorination from thermal degradation was applied. As a result, an SPR commercial plant has been able to achieve a high thermal degradation efficiency of about 80%. (4) The dechlorination process is installed vertically up from the thermal degradation process in the SPR commercial plant. A gravity feed system without a feeding pump has been applied for stable operation. (5) The thermal degradation oil will be reusable as a petrochemical raw material.
