説明
The Willendorf site has long been famous for the Venus figurine found in culture layer 9, which belengs to the Late Palaeolithic Gravettian tradition of central Europe. However, a fully polished stone tool found in culture layer 8, just beneath culture layer 9, has been virtually ignored.
A careful study on this tool was made, and it was re-evaluated as a tool which may have been used both as a polished ax and as a stone fabricator. The new radio-carbon dating on Willendorf layers is also descussed in relation to this tool.
Just as done for the Willendorf site, more energy shuld be devoted to the re-examination of materials unearthed in past excavations for the purpose of studying polished stone tools and their manufacturing technologies as a means to understand the Late Palaeolithic period in Europe.
