Abstract
The Shigetomi-higata tidal flats are located in the north-west part at the northern region of Kagoshima Bay. The short-necked clam resources were rich in the tidal flats until the 90's, but the harvests are nowadays decreasing and it has been prohibited to gather the wild short-necked calms. Some filed observations and numerical simulations were conducted to make clear the reasons of decreasing the resources.<br> As a result, the following findings were obtained; 1) the low-concentration chlorophyll a water in the tidal zone has a possibility to retard the clams growth, 2) the chlorophyll a is controlled mainly by the active water exchange between the tidal flats and the outer sea.
