Abstract

Reception of Chinese Sung-period culture in Kamakura period is one of the important themes in the study on theJapanese history. The sculptures that those clothes are drooping from the pedestal (drooping cloth style) is an exampleof them. This article deals with the theme from a viewpoint of that style sculptures.Until now, the sculptures in this style have not been researched as the issue in Kamakura period.In this article, I stete the following examination.1. In Kamakura, there were pioneer-like works of drooping cloth style in early half of 13th century.2. It is possible the first sculptures to which Kenchouji-temple is dedicated was a work of drooping clothstyle,"Kenchouji-yo".3. Then, the original of Kenchouji-yo may be the picture of Buddha with two Bodhisattva draw in nanSung-period belong to Kenchouji-temple.
