When a piezoelectric quartz crystal is dipped into a solution, viscosity ambient to the crystal greatly affects resonant frequency. Resonant frequency was determined by a spectrum analyzer for various solutions whose viscosity was altered by the addition of sucrose. A proportional relationship between change in frequency at series resonant point ΔFs and √ρη up to 25.45 [g1/2·cm-3/2·cp1/2] was demonstrated. Beyond this value, some deviation from linearity was observed. ρ is the density of a solution and η, viscosity. In the present method in contrast to the previous resonance method [Kurosawa et al., Anal. Chim. Acta, 274, (1993)] the linear relation of ΔFs with √ρη holds over a wider range, thus reducing the time required for analysis and assuring greates accuracy of results.
