Abstract

This paper demonstrates many examples of atypical phenomena where a verb-directional complement construction, composed of an intransitive verb, expresses a caused-motion. It also explores detailed description and analysis regarding of the mechanism in which intransitive verbs with intrinsically weak transitivity work as a causative-force in each context. The caused-motion of intransitive verbs expresses causative-force by borrowing a syntactic framework, 'Ba construction'. This paper explains these phenomena from the viewpoint of the meanings of constructions as well as the linkage between causing events and caused events. It also analyses the characteristics of contexts where this type of atypical caused-motion event appears.
