Description
Bicycle accidents increased in recent years in the ratio of the total number of traffic accidents. 50% of the accidents are crossing collision between bicycles and vehicles at unsignalized small junctions. Especialy, danger at small junctions along the arterial street has been focused where cyclings of both directions are permitted on the sidewalks in Japan. It is said that bicycles traveling in opposite direction to cars along the sidewalks near the buildings are dangerous.<br>This study aims at analysis on behavior of the car drivers who goes out from side roads into a arterial streets. we used virtual experiments by driving simulator and measured indecis such as position of driver's attention, TTC etc to evaluate the safety from the visibility of coners, cycling direction and positions. It was found that car drivers have tendency to pay attention only to the right side where car comes from, but not to the left side when the visibility of left side is bad,. Bicycles which cycling on sidewalk, and cycling on opposite direction to cars are more dangerours than cycling on other positions or directions.
