Abstract

The thermal stress which is produced by an axially symmetric distribution of tem perature in a thin circular plate is analysed by the usual method oftransforming it into the-ordinary elastic stress produced by the surface traction and the body force correspond ing to the given temperature distribution. The result is compared with the hitherto formulated ones written in some books at home and abroad, and the difference found between these results and the author's is explained by the stress produced by the surface traction normal to the plate, pointing out a mistake contained in the formers.
