Description

The moxibustion has been used as treatment and prevention of various diseases. One of its mechanism is expected that it influences on the immunologica process, thus, it has been reported that it enhanced the antibody formation in animals and human. On the other hand, although it is very good for early or mild stage of tuberculosis and cancer, it aggrava tes the disease at terminal stadium, therefore it is expected that it also affects the cell mediated immu nity, so we examined its possibility by means of blastoid transformation of lymphocytes. Before and after rabbits were received moxibustion treatment in three ways, namely 1) one point every other day, 2) ten points every other day and 3) five points every day for one week, the peripheral lym phocytes were separated and cultured with mitogen (PHA, Con or PWM) for three days and assayedthose incorp ration of 3H-Thymidine into DNA of lymphocytes with liquid scintillation counter. The results showe increase in peripheral lymphocytes and significant enhancement of the response to mitogens at small dose of moxibustion, but suppress at large dose after moxibustion treatment as compared with control. Consequently moxibustion at optimal dose enhance the cellular immunity but suppressed that atexcessive dose. These findings make sure its usefullness for treatment and its adverse effects on marantic case.
